  • #1 Mar 16, 2013

Also does fortune have an effect or looting i think looting but i have a fortune book. Also could i make a huge platform or something to make them spawn in a nether fortress or what? THankss

    There are a couple of ways to improve the rate of wither skulls:

    1. Looting - I think each level increases the percentage by .5%. So, if the original percentage drop is 2.5% or 1 out of 40 (which I think it is), then Looting III brings you up to 4% (1 out of 25). Fortune probably doesn't affect the drop rate.

    2. You can extend the available spawning places in the fortress (

    )

    It's old, but I think the video is still right.

    3. Wither farm - I don't have one, so all I can say is to make one of the skeleton farms that are on youtube.

    4. Half-Slabs! This is possible a part of the wither farms, I'm not sure, but its very time-consuming. What you do is make 40-100 thousand half slabs, and cover every surface in a 128 block radius with 1 half-slab (except for the fortress of course). This prevents anything from spawning outside of the fortress, increasing the spawn rate dramatically. I've only done it partially, bit by bit, so I'd say it might take you somewhere between 5-15 hours to do this, assuming you have all the cobble you'll need already.

    1: Flatten your fortress. Knock down the walls so that there are more valid places for the skeletons to spawn in.

    2: Darken your fortress. Unlike most nether mobs, wither skeletons only spawn in low light, just like their overworld counterparts. The more light sources you remove, the more skeletons you will find spawning.

    3: Extend the floors. Wither skeletons use the pack-spawning mechanic. While the pack itself can only spawn within the confines of the fortress, individual mobs may spawn up to five blocks away from the pack center, but only if there's a valid block for them to spawn on. If you extend the floors out five blocks in each direction, you will (slightly) increase the number of skeletons that are able to spawn.

    4: Prevent other spawns. Nether fortresses are big, but they're not that big. The world around you is able to spawn mobs for up to 144 blocks in each direction. That's a lot of surface area. The mob cap will quickly be reached, and then the only new mobs that will spawn will be to replace ones that have despawned. The more mobs that spawn outside your fortress, the fewer you will see inside, and only the ones inside of it can be wither skeletons. As with any sort of mob farm that relies on natural mob-spawning (as opposed to mob spawners,) you can prevent mobs from spawning outside the fortress by by half-slabbing the area around it, or covering it in lava. This will reduce the amount of available spawning spaces outside the fortress, forcing more of them to spawn inside the fortress, increasing the amount of mobs that will spawn there overall, and therefore more skeletons by default.

    If you say plz because it is shorter than please, I will say no because it is shorter than yes.
